A Note on Layerbase
A short note on Layerbase — the team we send people to when they need a specialty database engine, not managed Postgres in Asia.
We have been talking with the people who run Layerbase.
Nearbase is managed PostgreSQL. You create a database, you get a connection string, you connect. That is the whole product. When someone asks us for Redis, ClickHouse, MySQL, or another engine that is not Postgres, the honest answer is that we do not run it — and stretching Postgres into that job is usually a week wasted.
Layerbase does run those engines. They host a long list of them on one account, on a US-primary cloud. That is a different job from putting always-on Postgres next to users in Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta, or Dubai.
So the pointing is simple. If someone finds us and needs something that is not Postgres, we send them there. If someone needs Postgres next to users in Asia or the Middle East, that is us.
