Nearbase Sponsors the UIUC Postgres Club
Nearbase partnered with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Postgres Club to give students free instances. Here's what members get and how to claim yours.
Nearbase is now a sponsor of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) Postgres Club.
Every UIUC Postgres Club member gets free Nearbase instances to use for their projects, coursework, or just to explore — real infrastructure, not a toy sandbox.
What you get
As a UIUC Postgres Club member, you receive:
- free Basic instances — the same tier most teams run in production
- Full access to all Nearbase features: automated backups, point-in-time recovery, monitoring, TLS encryption, and a dedicated hostname
- No credit card required
This isn’t a trial. It’s a full instance with no strings attached.
Why we’re doing this
We started Nearbase because managed PostgreSQL shouldn’t be complicated or expensive. Students learning Postgres are the next generation of engineers who’ll be making infrastructure decisions — we want them to have hands-on experience with a production-grade setup, not a stripped-down free tier with frustrating limits.
The UIUC Postgres Club is exactly the kind of community we want to support. If you’re building with Postgres at UIUC, we’re glad to be in your corner.
Are you a student group or university club working with PostgreSQL? Get in touch — we’d love to talk.
